Israel Competes with US for Global Counter-Insurgency UAV Market

Israel is becoming a significant competitor of the United States in the UAV for Counter-Insurgency and Counter-Drug markets.

Israeli UAVs, developed primarily to augment Israel’s. Counter-Insurgency forces, have been selling robustly in world markets, from India through Russia, Turkey, several European countries, Central and South American countries (e.g., Brazil, El Salvador), and African countries (e.g., Nigeria). The Israeli advantage expresses itself in some sensor and  platform technologies, as well as software components, but mainly in the ability of Israeli vendors to sell their products to customers and countries that United States vendors are prohibited from doing business with for a variety of reasons.

Scenario I – Global UAV Procurement Forecast
by Region [$Million] - 2010-2015

The new MiG report examines market and technology evolution in the Counter-Insurgency UAV market (the market’s major market share holder) by providing three separate forecasts lines, based on three different scenarios:

  • Scenario I: Today’s steady state counter-insurgency in the Near East and other regions.
  • Scenario II: A new insurgency outside the Near East, involving a major first-world military.
  • Scenario III: A significant decrease in NATO UAV activity in the Near East.

MiG’s multi-scenario analysis is designed to offer industry and government policy and decision makers a clearer perspective of the complex technological, geo-political and commercial environment in which the UAV market is likely to exist over the next five years. Simply put, assuming “business as usual” in this case is just not good.
